Our House

Rotary Dial Phone, Wooden Table, Mp3 Player

12’’ x 12’’ x 40’’

“Our House” was installed into an actual telephone jack and the phone would ring aloud in the space. The viewer was enticed to pick up the phone, and when answered, was a half-hour long audio track of anecdotes of nine different residents in a memory care facility. This audio highlights their choppy and almost incomprehensible language due to dementia and other related memory loss. The dual title plays off of the idea of what we view as a home, and “Our House” is the name of the facility in which these residents live.
