One-Time…

Vellum, Typewriter Ink

8.5'' x 180''

“One-Time…” utilized extracted text from the recordings from my previous piece “Our House”. The primary line read, “Every year some of them didn’t show up; now I don’t show up anymore.” This line was typed over and over for the length of the scroll on a typewriter. As the text progressed, intentional and unintentional changes in the format of the text occurred. This decision to allow and purposely transform punctuation and grammatical formatting mirrored the idea of the mental deterioration of the mind over time. The punctuation of the title also allows for a dual meaning. The ‘…’ alludes to the generic story telling introduction ‘One time…’ and the hyphen refers to the term ‘one-time use’ that objects like typewriter ink ribbons require.
